Honey bees are a target of many pests, parasites, and predators. However, one of its biggest problems is the varroa destructor. The tiny mites attach to the bodies of the bees, sucking fat bodies. They cause a disease referred to as varroosis, weakening the bees and in most cases wiping out entire colonies within 2 to 3 years. Varroa mites should be kept at bay by all means possible, otherwise the beekeeper will lose the fruits of his or her hard work. Various treatment options are available to the beekeeper including the use of Bipinamite for combating varroosis in honey bees.

About the Product

The Amitraz Bipinamite is a formulation designed for targeting the invasive varroa mite. It is a transparent liquid boasting certain odor and some yellow tint to it. It is comprised of Amitraz as its active ingredient, making up about 12.5 percent of the product.

The substance has moderate toxicity to warm blooded animals. It does not affect vital activities in the bee colony, which include: production, development, or general condition of bees.

Efficacy and Usage

This product is effective in combating varoosis in honey bees. It is used in its aqueous emulsion form. This means you need to prepare a solution comprising of 2 liter of pure drinking water mixed thoroughly with 1ml of the product. The product is applied to the beehive during autumn when there is the least number of brood in the beehive. At this time temperatures are also favorable given, the fact that a minimum of 0 degrees Celsius (32 degrees Fahrenheit) is ideal for the product.

The drug emulsion should be administered on the interframe space in the beehive. Use at least 10ml for every frame. The substance should be applied in two stages. First stage is done immediately once honey collection has been completed. A second application is carried out prior to staging of bee families for wintering. You should avoid an overdose of the drug. Do not apply the solution on small bee colonies, that is, hives with less than 4 to 5 small frames.

Storage

This product should be kept in a cool, dry and dark place. It should also be stored away from children.

Ideal temperature levels for storage of the drug start from 0 to 30 degrees Celsius.

The product has a shelf life of 3 years from the date of manufacture. However, this will be affected by how it is stored.
